全球各地近年來掀起了一股同志婚姻的熱潮，許多國家陸陸續續開始重視這項議題
在歐洲與美洲部分國家相繼的通過同志婚姻法案後
英國，也將成為第16個以法律認同同性婚姻的國家
有15個國家相繼以法律認同同性婚姻，第一個為荷蘭，荷蘭於2001年就已經通過同性婚姻合法化了，其他國家包括：荷蘭、比利時、加拿大、西班牙、挪威、瑞典、南非、葡萄牙、冰島、丹麥、阿根廷、巴西、法國、烏拉圭、紐西蘭。
在這些通過同性婚姻合法法條的國家中，巴西、法國、烏拉圭、紐西蘭和英國都是在今年通過，可以看見這波浪潮是越來越熱烈。
英國下議院議長Maria Miller在近日發表聲明：“Marriage is one of our most important institutions and from 29 March 2014 it will be open to everyone, irrespective of whether they fall in love with someone of the same or opposite sex.”（婚姻是我們最重要的制度之一，而這個制度從2014年的3月29號開始，將會對所有人開放，不論他們是愛上同樣性別或是不同性別的人。）
英國下議院議長Maria Miller還補充說明：“This is just another step in the evolution of marriage and I know that many couples up and down the country will be hugely excited that they can now plan for their big day and demonstrate their love and commitment to each other by getting married.”（這只是婚姻制度的其中的一項進步，而我也知道，全國上下會有非常多伴侶都會對這個消息感到非常興奮，因為從現在開始，他們可以為他們重要的大日子計畫、並能夠透過婚姻，對彼此展示他們的愛與承諾。）
